Surabhi Saraf

Surabhi Saraf is a media artist, composer, and performer who uses her background in experimental sound, Indian classical music, and choreography to create audio and video works. Her performances foster a dialogue between the audio-visual elements and architecture to create immersive experiences. Surabhi had her first solo exhibition at Galerie Mirchandani + Steinruecke, Mumbai, India, where they represent her work. She was featured as a soloist at ProArts Gallery Oakland, CA, Currents International New Media Festival 2011 and 2012 in Santa Fe, NM, SOMArts in San Francisco, and the Goethe Institute Max Mueller Bhavan in Mumbai and New Delhi, India. Her collaborative work has been performed at NETMAGE 10 International Live Media Festival in Bologna, Italy, and in San Francisco at the Asian Art Museum, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and Soundwave Biennial ((5)). Her videos have been shown at Times Square in New York and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Vojvodina, Serbia. Surabhi was awarded an artist residency at the Djerassi Residency Artist Program in Woodside, CA, and has been nominated for SFMOMA’s SECA Award. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, Time Out Sydney & Mumbai, the San Francisco Bay Guardian, Blouin Art Info, Art Practical, and KQED Arts. She received her MFA in Art and Technology in 2009 from the Art Institute of Chicago.
