Maryam Yousif
2024 Eureka Fellow

Maryam Yousif creates ceramic installations exploring Mesopotamian mythology, history, and ancient objects. Born in Baghdad, Iraq in 1985, Yousif’s practice forges a dialogue with her ancestors and the culture of her homeland, while simultaneously connecting to a rich tradition of Bay Area ceramics.
Yousif received an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and a BA from the University of Windsor, Ontario. She has had solo exhibitions with The Pit in Los Angeles, CA; David B. Smith Gallery in Denver, CO; and Guerrero Gallery in San Francisco. Her work has appeared in group exhibitions at the Center for Craft in Asheville, NC; The Pit in Los Angeles, CA; Andrew Rafacz Gallery in Chicago, IL; and a forthcoming show at the Museum of Art and Design in New York City. She is currently working on a new body of work for a solo exhibition opening in the summer of 2023 at The Pit in Palm Springs, CA.
